I am a kid from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia pursuing a dream to make an impact in the lives of people around the world. Growing up in a middle class family, my only responsibility was to perform well academically. I've always thought that the soloutions to every problem we had in this world were to be found by simply following a formula. At the age of 18, I moved to Indiana to study at Manchester University. This is when I finally realized that there was no secret formula, the real world is way more complicated. My four years at Manchester University are the hardest yet the most productive years of my life. I was able to grow as a person and also discover these small pockets of interests. I learned the true value of self reliance and a life of service. Hence, I attained my Bachelor of Science in computer science.
Up on graduating from Manchester University I accepted a software engineering position at Navient and moved to Indianapolis. For the first time in my concious life I didn't have any responsibility after 5PM (well most of the time anyway). This gave me the perfect opportunity to watch movies and catch up on every show I missed while I was in college, not really. I decided to start challenging myself to grow and come up with my own curriculum. I started digging deep into topics of my interest that I never really had time for, registered for multiple classes online, pursued fitness and also reached out to volunteer locally. Through my experiences, I was able to identify my strengths in leadership, public speaking, teaching, marketing, and photogrphy.
I was also able to feed my curiosity in several professional settings. The following are amongst some of the things I worked on in the past year:
I also took some time this past year to travel and explore new places. I had the opportunity to visit Seattle, Orcus Island, Wasington D.C., Atlanta, Chatnooga, Staton (Red river gorge) and Nashville. Here are some of the pictures from my trip.
